המרכז על שם שלמה ארגוב לחקר העם היהודי ומדינת ישראל הוקם ב- 29 ליוני 1986 ביוזמתה ובמימונה של הקהילה היהודית בבריטניה לכבודו של שלמה ארגוב. במשך תקופת פעילותו עסק המרכז בארגון כנסים ובהוצאת פרסומים אקדמיים בנושאים הקשורים בזהותה היהודית של מדינת ישראל ויחסי הגומלין שבינה לבין יהדות התפוצות.
